I saw a proposal that would alleviate the "too much energy" argument. Build a lightning rod matrix over an underground water reservoir so when the lightning strikes the rods, the energy is channeled directly into the reservoir and forced electrolysis happens. This underground reservoir would make capturing the released oxygen and hydrogen simple as well.
It could happen!

i read similar article, probably for the same inventor, several years ago! i am not sure if this is a new invention!

That is how the first hydrogen cars were supposeto run as the hydrogen was separated from the water. But like corn and other food stuffs used for fuel, using water is just as bad. The world is running low on fresh water.

Not a new concept & takes more energy to separate hydrogen than hydrogen in a generator produces....so what's his sol'n as article doesn't say!!!

Do I understand this correctly? They are going to split the water into Hydrogen and Oxygen by electrolysis (which uses electricity) and then they are going to use the hydrogen in an engine to produce electricity? This will definitely work but they will get less electricity then the used to break the water down into Hydrogen & oxygen.

There is nothing new in these concepts. The rubber will hit the road when the technology is proven to work in real life.

I agree catspaw, the electrolysis requires energy If not hydrogen from water would be used would be used to generate power on a large scale That is the same problem many alternative fuels have, they require a large amount of energy to produce the fuel (ie ethanol)

Where does the electricity come from to power the electrolysis?

I hope this can really work! The basic principals seem sound, but it seems like a big project to get started.

This defies laws of chemistry and thermodynamics.
I think I'll wait this one out till the man invents a "Perpetual Motion Machine" as well.

This subject is something I've really looked into...watch this video about Stan Meyers, who is the guy I mentioned in my prior comment (stan_meyers_bb.wmv). Google that and a Youtube video will come up on it. Check it out. It's really interesting.

There has been a lot of progress on this technology. The problem is bringing it to market without being wiped out by the competition

Sorry people....the generator I was speaking about was a generator run on magnets. The water thing was done by another gentleman here in the States who used the technology to run a car solely on water, and it worked! Unfortunately, the man was poisoned to death just prior to bringing the concept out fro the public to see. The generator I'm speaking of is fantastic! Like I said...once started, it runs perpetually (or until the thing wears out or blows up!)
