Volvo Diesel Hybrid SUV - 117 mpg -215 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque

PluginCars -- But this Volvo has other virtues. First, it's a four-wheel drive. The diesel sends its power to the front wheels, whereas the electric motor works with the rear wheels. This set-up should provide better traction on snow, or for fast cornering. At very least, this hybrid should also be much more fuel-efficient than the standard diesel V60 model. This car really puts the driver in control.

Driving as an hybrid, there are two modes: the normal mode, where the car minimizes the use of the diesel engine, and a power mode for the best performance. I like the concept of a plug-in, it is a good transistional technology to a fully electric vehicle.

It sounds like a very nice vehicle, but at $80,947 it's not really feasible for most folks.

I can put a lot of fuel in my current auto for $80K. $80000 / $4 per gallon = 20000 gallons * 25 MPG = 500,000 miles - I won't live long enough to drive that many miles.

@doggod - This vehicle would qualify for the same $7500 tax credit as the LEAF or Volt. It's dependent on the battery size, not who makes it.

I'd like one of those, please. Where do I go to sign up for Obama to buy me one. That's the deal isn't it? It'd be "good for the environment", so isn't the government supposed to pay for it?

Say what?

Oh, so only big, politically-connected companies get to sign up for those handouts of taxpayer money; it's not for us regular folks who don't contribute so much to election campaigns, then. Thanks for setting me straight on that.

Yep, it's pricey but it shows you what they can do with the technology.

At 80K, if you can afford to buy it, you don't need to worry about the price of gas!
