Asia stocks plunge after Europe elections, US data

Fox News --
BANGKOK – Asian stock markets were pummeled Monday by weekend election results in Greece and France that heightened uncertainty about Europe's ability to solve its debt crisis.

Signs of a faltering economic recovery in the U.S. compounded the dour mood while oil slid below $97 a barrel. Japan's Nikkei 225 index plunged 2.6 percent to 9,134.26 and Hong Kong's Hang Seng slid 2.4 percent to 20,582.24.

Election results in Greece sent tremors throughout Europe as voters punished the parties responsible for highly unpopular austerity measures instituted to prevent the country from defaulting on its massive debts.

I wish Greece would simply default and get it over with. At least everyone can start fresh afterwards.

from Mattymattmatt..."Europe seems to be going for a more Socialism route with a Nationwide or Global focus, while the U.S. is getting back to its roots of individualism and small government."

Individualism and small government? Do you think that's what our government is trying to promote? Where have you been the past three years? Odumba is trying to make us MORE like Europe - socialism included! We SHOULD be moving towards a smaller government, yes, but he's racing us in the other direction. There's been more government growth in his term so far than there has been under any president in history.

It's very interesting. Europe seems to be going for a more Socialism route with a Nationwide or Global focus, while the U.S. is getting back to its roots of individualism and small government. I thought for sure it would be the other way around because the U.S. is always a little later in developing the thinking that comes over from Europe. It seems that, if the U.S. fails in its bid for individual independence, there will be no safe place in the world for the free-thinking man. Governments and the people in them will control everything.

Looks as if they now have the new story to drive oil prices up again, uncertainty over Greece. Why not just admit that they gave the country to much and move on. Raising oil prices and putting half the world on unemployment will not fit what has happened.

Europe should just cut bait with Greece and let them slide into the third world. Then they'll get nothing, instead of something, if they had just taken the austerity route.

You would think this would be a message to Odumba. Big government + big spending + big debt = Economic collapse.
