Has anyone yet experienced any trouble getting warranty work done on US cars imported to Canada or in getting compensation from KIA in the US for the work done?

About a year ago I purchased a used KIA USA 2006 Amanti in the US. At that time the warranty was transferred over to me by KIA USA. Later in that year (2007) KIA Canada decided that because of the large number of cars coming in from the US they would no longer honour the US warranty in Canada.

This means then that if warranty service is needed, I would have 2 options.

1.- pay cash up-front and then submit a claim to KIA USA in California.
2.- driving to the nearest US dealer 180 miles away (if I could drive it).

To this point I have had no trouble whatsoever and am very pleased with this car but I like to look ahead!

Also want to add that Kia is not the best on honoring their warranty on used cars (if bought new then they seem to sing another tune). My experience on a Rio bought with 28,000 Km (that's about 15000 miles) from a Kia dealer was every item required a fight & many things found out wasn't covered but apparently replaced beforehand ie. bad belts in one tire (not OEM supposedly), battery (not OEM), muffler (head deflector) loosened but not OEM either. There was one other thing not covered either.

So more than half of the issues occurring within the warranty (over now) was not covered according to them - yet when selling the car they extolled about their warranty.

This is happening on a lot more than just Kia's & its the Makers way to protect the extra cost of some makes/models vs that in the US (can be a huge difference at times) & to protect the difference in warranties provided - Kia/Hyundai offers much longer warranty in US. And some offer warranty items not even offered in Canada - like Dodges lifetime drivetrain warranty, only in the US.
You have to weigh the pros/cons before purchasing any vehicle, either side of the border.
